Holding Imperial Accountable!

How many leaks do we need for a wake-up call response?

By now, you must have heard about the disastrous leaks of Imperial Oil's tailings ponds. Millions of liters of toxic fluids have made their way into waterways and into the environment. Imperial Oil has been given months to address the leak - not only have they failed to do so, but they did not even warn the Indigenous Nations downstream of the leak about the contamination.

This is a tragedy - one we must not let anyone get away with. This is a story of irresponsible industries and complicit governments. As Jesse Cardinal put it, this is "ongoing genocide of Indigenous peoples".

Please find in this folder information and graphics to help you amplify the message that we must hold Imperial Oil accountable, and that this leak must be the wake-up call that leads governments to enforce clean-up of the tailings.

In this folder you will find the following:

  1. A Resource List with links to articles, blogs and reports relevant to the issue.

  2. A folder full of unbranded graphics you may use for your social media channels.

  3. Pre-written tweets if you want a quick way to amplify the issue.

  4. A great toolkit created by Indigenous Climate Action. You'll find a summary of the issue, some graphics and some text to help you write social media posts

I encourage you to share the folder and resources with allies and to reach out to me, Tori Cress (communications@keepersofthewater.ca) if you have any issues with the toolkit.
