How To Get Involved

Host an Annual Water Gathering in Your Community!

If your community is interested in co-hosting a Keepers of the Water Gathering, here are some considerations:

  • Keepers of the water will need consensus support from elected leadership for the Gathering to occur in the community.

  • We request a community liaison for the Executive Director and Keepers of the Water staff to work with. They will collaborate on the agenda, presentations, equipment, supply needs, venue, camping opportunities, cultural needs, and budget requirements as a team.

  • Keepers of the Water can contribute funds to the event, and we can supply videographers.

  • Keepers of the Water asks the hosting community to partner in the costs for the Gathering. This can be done by providing things such as using an indoor building to have workshops and presentations in case of rain, a camping place for people from other communities, and catering. If your community owns businesses like water hauling, wood hauling and porta-potties, this can also contribute to the Gathering.

  • Together, the Executive Director of KOW and the Community Contact will work on a theme for the Gathering. From this, they will create posters and communications for the event.

It is up to the community when the event will be held, but we typically hold Gatherings between June and September so that camping and outdoor activities can occur.
