Communications Coordinator

Talon Giroux

Talon Giroux is a proud member of the Ermineskin Cree Nation, Maskwacis Alberta, located in Treaty 6. Residing In Edmonton, Alberta. He has developed a passion for communications that allows him to amplify Indigenous voices and connect communities across Canada.

Raised alongside his five siblings—one of whom is his twin sister—Talon draws inspiration from the strength of his family and community. His experience in administrative roles within Indigenous-led organizations has deepened his understanding of the importance of effective communication. He finds great fulfillment in bridging the gap between Indigenous peoples and their audiences, ensuring that their issues and resources are heard and valued.

Talon graduated high school at 17 and is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration and Governance. He believes that for Indigenous peoples to be heard and move forward, it is essential to harness the tools of colonial education while integrating and honoring traditional ways of life. By combining contemporary knowledge with Indigenous wisdom, he aims to create pathways that empower his community and promote cultural resilience.

He is excited to take on the role of Communications Coordinator with Keepers of the Waters. The organization’s mission to protect water, culture, and future generations resonates deeply with him, reflecting his commitment to advocating for Indigenous voices and safeguarding natural heritage. For Talon, this new chapter is not just a role; it’s a passion that he holds close to his heart. He looks forward to using his skills and experiences to further engage and uplift his community, fostering connections that honour both tradition and progress.

When Talon isn’t immersed in school or work, he cherishes quality time with his two dogs, Nipin (Cree for summer) and Dougie. Also family meals at his mother’s house are a highlight, where he enjoys the warmth and laughter of not just his siblings, but also his aunties and cousins. Talon’s family shares a love for road trips, whether they’re exploring nearby destinations or venturing farther afield. For them, the journey is just as important as the destination—what truly matters is being together, creating lasting memories, and having a great time.
