Speakers for Keepers of the Water VI: Our Waters are One
September 26-29, 2012 · Fort Nelson, BC
Dehcho First Nation

Sam Gargan was born and raised in Redknife (native name translated: "among the spruce"). His wife is Alphonsine (Constant) Gargan. They have five children: Patricia Ann, Manuel Jerome, Solomon Lee, Olga Dawn and Sammy Baptiste.

Former Grand Chief Gargan was educated in the north and has been the Assistant Negotiator with Dehcho First Nation. Instrumental in our first Watershed Gathering in Liidlii Kue, Denedeh (Fort Simpson, NWT), he is one of the founders and a guiding voice of the Keepers of the Water.

For the past thirty-five years, Former Grand Chief Gargan's career was in politics: first as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for sixteen years, and then as Mayor of Fort Providence and Chief for two years each. When not actively involved in his career, he pursues his Traditional way of life as his ancestors did since time immemorial.
